Casework Support Administrator – Mental Health Casework Section – 80270 £28,636 – £30,151 Croydon In the event of a large number of applications we may sift on the lead behaviour which is Managing a Quality Service The roles that are available are all full-time roles which would be 37 hours per week. You would be based in East Croydon which would require you to attend the office 2 days per week which would be set days. The other days you have an option of Working from home. Overview of the job The Mental Health Casework Section (MHCS) is placed within the Public Protection Group of the Wales and Public Protection Directorate. The posts are based in HQ and located in Southern House Croydon. The main function of MHCS is to discharge the Justice Secretary’s functions under the Mental Health Act 1983. This involves the transfer of prisoners to and from hospital, and the management of other restricted patients diverted for treatment at the point of sentence that are either detained in hospital or conditionally discharged to live in the community under supervision. MHCS takes decisions on recall, community leave, and transfer and provides advice to clinicians on the management of restricted patients. There are a number of casework administrator posts in MHCS. Each job holder will report to a Casework Manager. Summary The job holder’s responsibilities involve supporting caseworkers and other senior staff, obtaining papers from the courts, prisons and CPS and producing warrants for prison transfers to hospital, drafting First-tier tribunal (Mental Health) statements for detained and conditionally discharged patients, producing and issuing stock letters, and updating the PPUD database. All of the work requires attention to detail, the ability to meet tight deadlines, organise and prioritise casework and establish good working relationships with other agencies involved in the management of restricted patients. The work concerns dangerous mentally disordered offenders and much of the material handled is of a disturbing and sensitive nature. Casework administrators require good organisational skills and are expected to work with a reasonable degree of autonomy. Responsibilities, Activities and Duties The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties: Prepare case summary for first time statements and check case summary for repeat statements for detained and conditionally discharged patients on behalf of the Secretary of State, ensuring that they meet statutory and Section targets, for endorsement by the EO as relevant. Also to ensure that previous convictions have been received and uploaded onto the Offender Management Database (PPUD). Provide administrative support, including issuing stock letters and warrants and obtaining information, on recalls, prison transfers, remissions to prison, trial leaves and transfers, discharges, change of conditions and end of restriction cases. Chasing court progress and monitoring CD progress by liaison with the Tribunal. Ensure that PPUD is used correctly and updated accurately, including noting database on death of patient and then notifying police and closing case. The duties/responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present and is not intended to be exhaustive. The job holder is expected to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level that may be necessary.
