We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Rheumatology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department. Our client currently are the larger acute hospital within the area, with 578 in-patient beds. The second site, has 42 in-patient beds, extensive out-patient services and a newly opened Urgent Care Centre. The ED serves a population of over 310,000 people; it is open 24 hours daily and sees 85,000 new patients per year. There are a wide range of specialties on site including medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. Our client has been rated ‘Good' in its most recent CQC inspection. Their vision is to continue to deliver high quality, safe and sustainable health and care services to the local population and beyond. The successful appointee will be asked to undertake various duties within the department, these include: mainly Out-patient based. The Rheumatology service has dedicated Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy support on both sites and secretarial support as well. The successful candidate is welcome to develop the appointee's own specialty interest. The Rheumatology Department has access to ultrasound equipment and a portion of the clinics offer ultrasound screening for the early diagnosis of infammatory arthritis. The appointee will be expected to work within the shared care agreement. The Rheumatology Department receives referrals through urgent referral pathway to an early arthritis clinic and a temporal arteritis pathway with Vascular Ultrasound support. There is also an Electronic Advice and Guidance service run by consultants. In addition, the appointee will be expected to assist with Clinical Governance and Audit duties along with help regarding Educating Junior Medical staff. THE DEPARTMENT 1.1 Overview The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is managed within the Womens and Childrens Directorate. Dr Victoria Hall is the Specialty Lead and is managerially responsible to the Clinical Director for Women and Children and the Directorate Manager Carly Lamb. Obstetrics has delivered some excellent results. The Trust was an early adopter of the Growth Assessment Protocol, using individualised growth charts. The detection rate for babies who are small for gestational age is consistently in the top quartile nationally. Approximately 2400 women choose to have their babies at Tameside every year. The survey of womens experiences of maternity services (as part of the National Patient Survey Programme) reported that for questions pertaining to staff in the labour and birth part of the survey Tameside achieved the highest score of the 133 Trusts included for 6 of the 8 questions, and also had the highest score overall in this section. Approximately 7.5% of women have their babies on the ABC. The maternity unit also includes the delivery suite, with one dedicated maternity theatre, a maternity triage/ day-case area, an in-patient post-natal /antenatal ward and consultant offices. A level two neonatal unit is situated next to the in-patient ward with transitional care facility. Communication between different staff groups clinical and managerial - is enhanced because of the close proximity of all these services. Gynaecology outpatients including colposcopy, uro-gynaecolgy and hysteroscopy is located across from the Charlesworth Building in our main Hartshead Building along with elective surgery. 1.4 Approximate Annual Activity Figures Births 2,400 Obstetric outpatients 15,000 Gynaecology inpatients 1,300 Gynaecology outpatient 17,000 1.5 Nurse/midwife-led services The Gynaecology Outpatient Nursing Team includes a Nurse Practitioner who provides colposcopy and hysteroscopy. A further nurse is currently in colposcopy training with another in hysteroscopy training. There is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who supports Early Pregnancy and Emergency Gynaecology Services. There is a plan to develop additional nurse-led clinics in Gynaecology. There is an award-winning Enhanced Midwifery Team for vulnerable/at-risk mothers and a well-established smoking cessation service for pregnant women. The department also has 2 Midwife Sonographers, with a further midwife undergoing sonography training. SECTION 3 FACILITIES SUPPORTING THE POST Secretarial support is provided by a dedicated admin and clerical team. Senior secretarial support will be available. Consultant Clinical Oncologist in Sarcoma and Paediatrics

This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to work within the Clinical Oncology Sarcoma and Paediatric Group and Proton Beam Therapy Team. It is envisaged that the post-holder will have clinical commitments in both Sarcoma and Paediatric oncology, being actively involved in these disease groups, as well as being involved in the national delivery of proton beam therapy (PBT). The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in both Sarcoma and Paedatric services delivering both radiotherapy, and systemic therapy. The appointee will be a member of the GMOSS Sarcoma MDT. The appointee will also be expected to attend clinics and other MDT/Peer Review (RTQA) meetings as described in the Job Plan. The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in both Sarcoma and Paediatric services delivering radiation therapy. The appointee will be a member of the GMOSS Sarcoma, RMCH Paediatric Oncology, and Paediatric Radiation Oncology (including PBT) MDTs. The appointee will also be expected to attend clinics and other MDT/Peer Review (RTQA) meetings as described in the Job Plan. Sarcoma The post holder will be joining Drs J Wylie, W Croxford and Dr K Abutaleb who share responsibility for the delivery of radiation therapy for bone and soft tissue sarcoma. There is a weekly multidisciplinary sarcoma clinic involving Consultant Onco-plastic surgeons (Mr D Mowatt and Mr Damir Kosutic). Approximately 100 cases per annum receive radical radiotherapy. Dr A Lee, Dr Hameed, and Dr M McCabe share responsibility for any chemotherapy delivered for sarcoma and they run a weekly parallel clinic. Approximately 150 new cases of sarcoma are currently seen at The Christie per year. The Greater Manchester and Oswestry Sarcoma Service (GMOSS) is based primarily around three Hospitals, namely Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RJAH), and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. GMOSS provide specialist care for patients with all types and stages of soft tissue and bone sarcoma residing in the Greater Manchester, Cheshire, parts of Greater Midlands, and North Wales. Patients with bone sarcoma and teenage and young adult patients with sarcoma residing in the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network (LSCCN) are referred into GMOSS. The core service comprises five sarcoma surgeons, two medical oncologists, four clinical oncologists, one dedicated TYA oncologist, three musculo-skeletal radiologists, two specialist sarcoma pathologists plus two clinical nurse specialists (CNS) at Christie as well as nurses at MFT and Oswestry all with a special interest in sarcoma. The sarcoma service screens and recruits patients to clinical trials and is assisted by a clinical trials nurse. A core weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting (MDT) between the sites is held where all confirmed new, highly suspected or recurrent sarcoma cases are discussed to formulate a management plan. The MDT is video linked between the three sites The team is also responsible for delivery of proton beam therapy (PBT) for TYA and adult patients fulfilling the NHS criteria for this treatment. Broadly this includes patients with para-spinal and spinal sarcomas, truncal and pelvic Ewings and complex head and neck sarcomas including rhabdomyosarcoma. Paediatric The post holder will be one of 6 Clinical Oncology consultants specialising in Paediatric Radiation Oncology (joining Prof Ed Smith, Dr Gillian Whitfield, Dr Nicky Thorp, Dr Shermaine Pan, and Dr Khalid Abutaleb) and will be an active member of the MDT. The paediatric radiation oncology service receives over 150 PBT referrals per year (from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland) and over 50 XRT (including TBI) referrals per year from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) and Alder Hey (AH). The care of paediatric XRT patients from Merseyside, North Wales and the Isle of Man, to Manchester, took place in April 2023. The post holder will take XRT referrals from RMCH and PBT referrals as part of the national service. All paediatric radiation therapy plans (XRT and PBT) are peer reviewed in weekly RTQA meetings. The post holder will be actively involved in the Proton Therapy Service at The Christie and the post holder will be an integral part of the paediatric radiation oncology multidisciplinary team. They will also be expected to be actively involved in the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group as well as other national/international paediatric oncology groups.
